10 simple yet powerful ways for a rocket fast XP....

On this page,  I am willing to provide some useful tips and tricks that definitely gives a boost to your operating system ( XP ) a nice speed.... Forget about the various costly softwares available on various websites to drastically increase your PC s speed  !

Here are those tips and tricks....

  1. First of all it is recommended to defrag your hard drives on a regular basis...in fact use a time schedule for this. There are a variety of defraggers available in the software market, but the one which i am currently using and  really proud of it is - "Iobit Smart De-frag" which is available for free download here. It works best to decrease the boot time and enhance the PC to it's optimal speed..Yeah !

2.   After defragging all your drives now it's the turn to repair your invalid registry entries. Remember that -

The registry is a key component of the Windows operating  system. Without it, Windows would not be able to run. The registry is stored on your computer in several files. Depending upon your version of Windows there will be different files and different locations for these files.  So manipulating the registry by yourself can cause serious damage to your OS...In order to overcome this problem you can rely on "RegCure"- The best registry cleaner in the software market. It can be used as a trial or paid product from here , Or you can opt for a free registry cleaner AML from here .   I like both the products..as they really help in cleaning the invalid junks of registry...

3. Use a Software that cleans the temporary IE files and the history of your computer..This will keep your computer junk free and it is freed from the burden of unnecessary junk files..The one such product which i liked the most is CCleaner..it's here for free download here.

4. It is also advisable to keep the items in your system tray to minimum...in fact keep only those which are often used...and disable the rest by using msconfig.   For this Go to Start, Run, msconfig, and then startup, then finally uncheck those applications which you really do not need. This step will decrease the boot time to a great extent. Yup !

5. Now , even if appying all above utilities, you are not getting the desired results then it is the problem with visual effects of the OS. For this..just right click on my computer icon, go to properties, then advances, then performance, and finally choose for settings, there select the option for best performance...

I hope that all the useful information which i am providing caters to the needs of everybody on this very post !!!

Enjoy a speedy and junk free Computing.......

Custom Search

 6.  Disable file indexing. This is a tiny service that uses a great deal of RAM and induces much disk thrashing. Your system instantly becomes more responsive. Here’s how: First, doubleclick the My Computer icon. Then, right-click on the C: Drive, then hit Properties. Uncheck “Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching.” Next, apply changes to “C: subfolders and files,” and click OK.

7.  Empty the Windows Prefetch folder every week. Windows XP can “prefetch” portions of data and applications that are frequently loaded. This allows processes appear to start faster when requested the user. Over time, the prefetch folder overwhelms with references to files and applications no longer in use. Guess what happens? Windows XP wastes time and grinds to a halt by pre-loading obsolete data . To do so simply follow these steps :

(a) Go to the drive on which your windows is installed.

(b) Go to WINDOWS folder

(c) Go to the Prefetch folder and then empty all its content.

Remember : Empying the Prefetch folder should be done regularly (once a month), but NOT on a rapid basis.

8Speedup Folder Browsing

You may have noticed that everytime you open my computer to browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers everytime you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing significantly:

  • Open My Computer
  • Click on Tools menu
  • Click on Folder Options
  • Click on the View tab.
  • Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box
  • Click Apply
  • Click Ok
  • Reboot your computer

9. Every 3 Sundays, open the computer’s cases and blow out all the dust and debris. Inspect your fans and motherboard capacitors for bulging or leaks. By getting rid of sludge, you lower motherboard temperature and increase your system’s stability.

10. Upgrading to more RAM ( atleast 512 for XP and 1 GB for Vista ) is recommended. Increasing the RAM,  dramatically takes the PC to its peak performance...
